Baking: Deep Dish Skillet Chocolate Chip Cookie

Hello!

Recently I broke out my collection of Cast Iron and reasoned it all into beautiful cooking condition. All my cast iron is Vintage/Antique owned originally by my Grandma, Great Grandma & Great Great Grandma. So using these skillets are special, It's almost like cooking with them.

Yesterday with great success I tried my first ever skillet cookie. I had never baked in cast iron before but have heard great things so I thought I'd give it a go.

To make this easy and delicious treat all you need is a good cookie recipe and a cast iron skillet. I used my Grandma's award winning Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe. And I'm sorry but this is a family recipe that I share with NO one. But you can easily use your favorite or find one online.

All I did was mix my ingredients in a mixer and pack them into two greased cast iron pans. Depends on your recipe but mine filled a large and medium cast iron skillet. I baked them at 350°F for 22 minutes. It all depends on the amount of dough you are working with and the size of skillet you are using. I recommend setting the timer for 15 minutes and then checking. It's always best to set the timer lower than higher then to come back to see that your cookie is burnt. Nothing ruins your day more than a burnt cookie!

I seen a few places where people mixed the ingredients in the skillet it's self but I feel like using a mixer will get you better results.

You could try this method with any kind of cookie, you don't have to make Chocolate Chip.
Another fun idea would be to add a scoop or two of Vanilla ice cream atop the warm cookie but I didn't have any on hand and didn't feel like running to the grocery store.

I hope you try this and love it as much as my family did.

ENJOY!

~Emily
