Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel was born in 1883. Born poor to unmarried parents, Coco's early life was anything but a luxuries one.  Coco wasn't always the beautiful, glamorous & rich Swan that we all think of her today. She started off as the ugly ducking who fought her way up through the mud and dirt to make a fashion empire that we all still love to this day.   Karen Karbo dives in deep to the lore of all things Chanel. She tries to find some of the truths in the legends and mystery that was the life of Coco.     We learned she somewhat bent the truth over the years. But heck can you blame her. She grew up poor, an orphan once her mother died and her father left abandoning her and her siblings. Not what we'd call the ideal childhood.   Coco was snarky and brash. But loving and kind when she wanted to be. When Coco started Chanel she only made hats and could barely sew. She never really became much of a seamstress, more of a bossy tyrant to those who she employed.   This book tells us the way she lived her life, the way she thought other people should live and how she thought Women should dress and act.   Chanel thought clothing should be stylish but practical. When Chanel started off in the fashion world things like that didn't yet exist. Those were the days of corsets that were so tight, to pull in your waist and perk your boobs on the verge of popping out of your dress. Which couldn't have been comfortable nor practical. Coco thought clothing should be simple and effort less.   Reading this book makes me want to research and learn as mush as I can about Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel. The life she built, stories she told , the loves she lost and last but certainly not least the fashion she created.   I beyond recommend this book. If you love Fashion or even Business reading anything about Chanel can be very inspiring, From rags to riches sort of thing.   Forever Chanel will be remembered as a Style & Fashion icon.
