Recipe: Banana & Nutella Bread

Hello!

Banana & Nutella two things that go together beautifully. So I thought to myself "Why not combine my Mothers classic banana bread recipe with the wonderful chocolate hazelnut spread that is Nutella?". I thought it was an epiphany kind of moment to then later come to find out other people have thought the same idea before. So I am thinking great minds must think alike.

Now to be quite honest I've only semi recently discovered my love for this Chocolate Hazelnut goodness, I tried it for the first time and was hooked. I had always thought it was kind of strange how people obsessed over it so much, it's almost like a cult following. But after trying it I do see why people like it so much. I wouldn't call myself addicted or anything. But it's good. This was my first time baking with it. And I do enjoy how it turned out. I will have to try it in other recipes.

Recipe:  Bake at : 350F  For: 35 - 40 Minutes Makes: 3 loafs (3.0 x 2.0 x 5.8)

1/2 Cup Shortening
2 Eggs
2 Cups Flour
1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
1/2 Cup White Sugar
3 ripe Bananas
1/4 Teaspoon Salt
6 Tablespoons Nutella

Cream sugar, shortening and mashed bananas. Once creamed add in flour. Optional: Recipe calls for sifted flour but I never do. Measure out salt & soda and add to mixture.

Mix thoroughly and place in a greased 3x2x5.8 loaf pan add two tablespoons Nutella to each pan and swirl into the batter using a butter knife. Bake at 350F for 35-40 minutes.

Enjoy!
Love,
 Emily

Recipe: Rustic Black Forest Cupcakes

Hello!

Oh Cupcakes, who doesn't love a good cupcake these days. From all the cupcake bakeries to cupcake baking competitions on TV. They seam to be the "It" sweet treat. Today I thought I'd share the perfect Black Forest cupcake recipe. And let you in on a little secret. The recipe includes a boxed cake mix. I did a little twist on the classic German cake, instead of doing whipped cream I did Cream Cheese frosting. But go right ahead and do whipped cream if you'd prefer.

Every Sunday since I can remember we've gone to my Grandmothers for lunch, so today for an after lunch treat I made these cupcakes and everyone seamed to love them. I hope you do too!

Recipe:

Preheat oven: 350F

1 Box Devils Food Cake Mix (I used Betty Crocker)

3 eggs

1 1/4 Cups Water

1/2 Vegetable Oil

As per the instructions on the cake mix

I then add:

1 extra Egg

4 Tablespoon All-purpose Flour

2 21 oz Canned Cherry Pie Filling

In a bowl or stand mixer. Add all 4 eggs and beat. Once beaten add cake mix and extra flour. Mix. Once batter is mixed line 24 cup cake tins with paper liners. Then pour in each liner 2 Tablespoons of batter, once you've done that add the Cherry pie filling. I added 3 Cherries and a bit of the syrup to each cupcake. After you've done that fill the cupcake liner until just under 1/4 inch full. And bake for 18 minutes.

Frosting:

12 oz Betty Crocker Cream Cheese

Or if you prefer homemade my favorite recipe is

4 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter, room temp

4 Cups Confectioners Sugar

1/4 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract

6 oz Cream Cheese, room temp

Combine all ingredients in stand mixer, Mix until all combined. Once the mixture looks like frosting beat on high for a couple minutes until light and fluffy.

I then sprinkled on Dark Chocolate shavings and placed 1 Cherry on top. I used the pie Cherries I just didn't use the syrup.

Enjoy!

As always I'd love to know if you try this recipe. If you do comment below or tag me on Twitter/Instagram @ ChicCountryGirl

DIY Fashion: Glittered Heart Headband Tutorial

Hello! Lovelies

Todays DIY Fashion is inspired by the semi-upcoming Holiday and my love of Glitter.
All around town in stores you will already find Valentine themed décor, gifts & candy. And Valentines Day is still over a month away.

This tutorial is very easy and, was very cheap to make. I bought the Hearts at Hobby Lobby for $1.99 and bought a pack of 5 elastic headbands for $1.00 at the Dollar Store. You can use any glue or glitter you have. But all items I used were from Hobby Lobby. Total cost was under $10.

You'll need:

Felt Hearts (Bought at Hobby Lobby) or Red Felt
Elastic Headband (Bought at Dollar Tree, pack of 5 for $1.00)
Red or Black Thread
Needle
Glue
Paint Brush
Glitter

Step 1: Check your local Craft stores for felt Hearts, you should be able to find some this time of year. If not you can use those felt sheets you get for 25cents and cut them in the shape of hearts. You'll start by deciding how many hearts you want on your headband and how you want them arranged. Then start sewing them on to the elastic headband. You'll want to do 2-3 stitches on each to make sure they are secure. If your not good at sewing don't worry it will later be covered in glitter. Step 2: Once you sew on your first heart repeat that step, I did 3 hearts total but you can do however many you like. Step 3: Using a paint brush, brush on a layer of glue and sprinkle with Glitter. Repeat step on each heart. Optional Step: Once your glitter has dried you can brush on a layer of Mod Podge, This will help for any fallout. Then once partly dried sprinkle on a bit extra glitter. That gives the glitter a better look. I personally don't like the look of Mod Podge on glitter but it helps keep it from falling off, that's why I do it and then put a little extra on top. That way you have two layers.

And that is all. Super easy and quick. Longest part is waiting for the glue to dry. This DIY project looks like you did a lot more than you actually did.

I hope you enjoy this tutorial. Would love to see pictures if you make one. Tag me on Instagram or Twitter @ChicCountryGirl
